Award winning and Iconic International Photographer Annie Leibovitz, on how she captured the atmosphere for the last cover picture taken of John and Yoko …
Her inspiration came from the ‘Double Fantasy’ album cover where John and Yoko were kissing. “…That picture moved me and I immediately imagined them together with their clothes off – which wasn’t an unusual image,” she said.
On the day of the shoot, an agreement took a minor turn – Yoko didn’t want to take her clothes off. “So it was a beautiful image of a naked John and a clothed Yoko”.
“…Later that afternoon, John was murdered… The way these events played out is an excellent example of how circumstances change a picture. It’s like when you think of the picture and suddenly the photograph has a story”.
